Five lies Meyer is telling:

1. “He’s in the business for the money.” This is a straight up, bald-faced lie. Meyer is in for his friends. Benny and Lucky are his world. AR is closer to him then his own family, and faith. Everyone and thing else comes secondary. If all his friends jumped off a cliff, you bet your ass he would be there too. There is nothing on earth he wouldn’t do for his friends, and he puts them above his own family and blood.
2. He’s a mimic. Charlie might know it, and AR might sense it but Meyer’s personality reflects the company he is with. With AR and his circle, he’s a businessman- cool-headed and personal, with Benny? The man is vicious and an animal. Alone, or with Anna- Meyer is quiet, probably more a thinker then doer (which is funny considering he is usually who AR picks as an envoy) and craves legitimacy.
3. “He’s in love with his wife.” In truth, he married her so he wouldn’t have to come home to an empty house. He suspects AR is guilty of the same crime: craving the company, not the companion but he doesn’t share AR’s crippling co-dependency. For him, it is strictly he needed an escape. He does however love Anna, and their children and will go through great lengths to protect them and keep them whole. Just not as much as he would for Benny. He is probably afraid of his family too.
4. He’s rich. Again, like his mentor- a good chunk of his wealth is used to keep the business running. He doesn’t want for anything but most of his money is invested in the next scheme. Going back to number one: it isn’t about the money. It’s just as much enjoying the game. Unlike his mentor however, he isn’t addicted to it or even the promise of wealth- even the game is more to keep his friends happy and his time occupied.
5. “It’s just business.” For Meyer? It’s never business. Truth be told, he doesn’t have Rothstein’s indifference, or Charlie’s ambition. If anything, he has Benny’s heart. But- back to the second? His poker face is better than AR’s.
